One of my UK favorites is back with another video. I’m glad to see new material for the duo, who is scarce with their releases. This video comes to us courtesy of D&C.
“Ima read that b*tch!”
Shout out to Randa Luv for putting me on to these entrancing visuals. Just click play…you’ll see exactly what I mean. Already creeping up on 10,000 views, Zebra Katz are the new signee’s on Mad Decent’s new imprint Jeffree. Ok, I’m not mad.
The Agenda Trade Show hit New York City this week and I was on hand to catch the festivities. Clothing labels from The Hundreds, to Trufkit and Sabit NYC were all in the building showcasing their collections. Not to mention, there were some fly onlookers!
Check out some photos from the event after the break.
As I’ve said many times, Stacy Barthe’s music is something magical. In part two of our interview the talented songstress sheds the details on one of my favorite collaborations this year with fellow crooner Frank Ocean. She also talks more about her new EP and features with some amazing talents like John Legend, Estelle and Melanie Fiona.
Stacy really painted a picture with her interview as she does with her music, captivating any soul willing to lend their attention. Read the full interview after the break, or click here to read part one first.
What a pleasant surprise we have here. Acoustic soul diva Elle Varner unleashes a new mixtape, appropriately titled Conversational Lush. The 13-track piece continues with her sophisticated vibe, with a wide range of styles. “WTF” is most definitley a stand-out, I’ve been replaying that all morning.
Download/stream the entire project after the break.
On being inspired by NY Hip-Hop:
I’m based out of NC but I was born and raised in VA. It didn’t have its own scene, and New York was where everything was coming from. That was some of my first experiences with Hip-Hop. I’m definitely a fan of music from all over but New York was how I was introduced to Hip-Hop. There’s favoritism towards New York Hip-Hop, it was just the stories. It ended up taking place even when I became a fan of NWA, UGK, Outkast…the stories. You hearing about these different places and what goes on, it’s so magnetizing…
On first working with Kendrick Lamar:
No, I had no idea. It was crazy how we ended up connecting. This was back when Myspace still had a little pull. Their people hit me up on Myspace and they wanted myself and Phonte to do some work with Jay Rock. He was on Warner at the time, and I had went and did my research…I had never heard of them before so I went Googled them, heard a couple of songs, I liked what I heard so I hit them back, I was like Yo, I’m down…
On N.C.’s Music Scene:
It’s in a weird place. They’re trying to re-create a scene again. There was a scene when we were first coming up as Little Brother, the scene was bubbling and then it fizzled out. They’re trying to re-create a scene again but it’s just fractured. As long as the scene is fractured and you have 10 or 15 different people trying to create 10 or 15 different scenes, there will never be a strong scene. Everybody wants to be the first to put North Carolina on as they say. It’s one of them things where the music scene reflects real life…as long as there is no true unity, it will never be as big as it could be.
I can’t give away all the gems! Head over to HipHopWired.com for the full interview.
Something different to listen to as you wind down on your Monday evening. This definitley sounds like something I’d hear in a commercial for some non-fat yogurt dessert…right? The visuals help take my mind away from that though.
BJ The Chicago Kid has been on a roll. The last track he released in collaboration with Kendrick Lamar was purely heart wrenching. Interesting enough he released these set of visuals with the same (I mean identical) backdrop as Troy Noka’s “The Last Time.” Weird, huh.
